Now, no one expects pageant winners to be saints or angels. And that’s especially true when the girl in question is a teenager. But there’s big difference between some bad judgement and the repeated use of racist language that turned up in some of recent Miss Teen USA winner Karlie Hay’s tweets.
Here are the tweets in question. It doesn’t take a lot of insight to see what the censored word is. You can see from the timestamp that these tweets are three years old, but take place over days, indicating it wasn’t just one flurry of bad judgment. I mean…yikes.
She deleted her count and issued an explanation/statement from a new account.
This situation clearly needs an apology or explanation from Karlie…
…but’s it’s pretty hard to feel like this statement comes from the heart.
